Your child’s education begins at birth. There are more than 1,800 days that you are your child’s primary teacher-before they ever start kindergarten. Each of those days is a learning opportunity.

There are several website resources you can use to help you engage with your child and start the learning process.

Children can begin their educational journey in prekindergarten as young as age 3. When a child begins school before kindergarten, they learn to socialize appropriately with other children; learn letters, numbers, colors, and other school essentials; and are better prepared for a school environment when they start kindergarten.3 Districts may have different early childhood programs available; some of the most common are

    • Head start
    • District prekindergarten
    •  A Bright Beginning Migrant Early Childhood curriculum4

NOTE: Visit the Texas Schools website to locate a school in your area or to learn more about local schools.

Local MEP staff can provide information about early childhood opportunities for migratory children in the district.
